Preview: Windsor Golf Classic

WINDSOR, Calif. — The fourth stop on the 2019 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Symetra Tour to Windsor Golf Club in the Golden State for the second edition of the Windsor Golf Classic from April 5-7.

“Adding a second event in California was a priority for this season and we look forward to heading back to Northern California, especially such a welcoming area in Sonoma County,” said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of the Symetra Tour. “Being able to join the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship in showcasing women’s professional golf to this region is great for the growth of the game.”

Greeting the 144-player field in Windsor, Calif. is a total purse of $150,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 54-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes.

“We’ve worked hard to get the course and venue ready to accommodate the next generation of LPGA Tour stars,” said Demian Reddy, the Marketing and Sales Director for Windsor Golf Club. “There is sure to be championship golf played throughout the weekend and our team is thrilled to once again host a major women’s professional golf event.”

Defending champion Hyemin Kim (Seoul, Republic of Korea) is among the competitors. She won the inaugural event in 2017 when it was known as the POC Med Golf Classic. The 30-year-old has a total of nine top-10 finishes on the Symetra Tour in 121 career starts entering the 2019 season.

“That winning experience was very special for me and I wish there was a way to describe how much it means to do so with all the great players on the Symetra Tour,” Kim said. “I was a little sad we didn’t have the tournament last year, but really appreciate the decision to bring it back. It’s a good feeling to know I have past success here.”

Action gets underway at 7:30 a.m. PT off No. 1 and No. 10 tees for all three rounds.
