Accessory Review: Logitech Professional Presenter R800

Accessory Review: Logitech Professional Presenter R800
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor,

As a professional speaker, one of the things that has irked me most has been sub-par presenters. You can ask the college and university students I teach about my numerous failed attempts to flip from one PowerPoint slide to another during lectures.

Finally, I have found a high-performance presenter: the Logitech Professional Presenter R800. Even its name sounds like something out of a James Bond movie. That’s not too farfetched, either, since the R800 from Logitech boasts a 100-foot effective range, thanks in part to its 2.4 GHz wireless capability. I tested this presenter well down the hallway from my college classroom, and it still zipped through my PowerPoint as fast as lightning. Now, if only my students would hand in their assignments as quickly as my new favourite gadget.

The wireless Professional Presenter R800 is a cinch to use – just plug the remote mini receiver into a USB port of your PC (Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7), turn on the R800 and you’re ready to roll. In addition to its 100-foot performance, the R800 also has a crystal-clear green laser pointer.

Here’s another feature which separates the R800 from the rest of the pack: it boasts an LCD display with timer, battery-power and reception-level indicators. You can easily keep track of time, battery, and wireless reception with a glance or with silent, vibrating alerts. I recently gave a 45-minute speech to the local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators and programmed the R800 to alert me when my time was up. (You can view that speech here).

The R800 from Logitech also features intuitive slideshow controls, with easy-to-find buttons and smooth contours which feel great in your hand – no more fumbling in front of a crowd.

Powered by 2 AAA batteries (included) and complete with carry case, the Logitech Professional Presenter R800 carries a MSRP of $99.99. If you’re a professional speaker, then you need a pro on your side – rather, in your hand. The R800 won’t disappoint.
