Ervasti Deserves Early Hall Of Fame Nod
January 20, 2014

When colleague John Gordon, Director of Communications at ClubLink Corporation, brought to my attention that super senior golfer Ed Ervasti was not a member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, I was surprised, to say the least.

Ervasti, who just turned 100 on January 13, is perhaps the world’s most accomplished senior golfer. In fact, when you consider his lifetime of accomplishments, you realize he has amazed on the links from an early age – and would be a more than deserving member of the hall of fame.

Gordon and I have nominated Ervasti for induction into the Canadian golf hall, which won’t formally consider new inductees until the fall. But considering all that Ervasti has done for golf in Canada, and with his home club, London Hunt and Country Club, hosting the CP Canadian Women’s Open August 18-24, it would only be fitting for Golf Canada to expedite the voting process.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1914, Ervasti and his family moved to the Detroit area following the First World War. His employer, Wolverine Tube, transferred him to London in 1965, and he has been considered golf royalty in these parts ever since.

A member at London Hunt, Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, The Oaks Golf Club, Redtail Golf Course, and Turtle Creek Club in Tequesta, Florida where he recently celebrated his 100th birthday, Ervasti has shot his age or better since age 65 – he has accomplished this feat more than 3,000 times.

In total, Ervasti holds a total of 60 golf championship titles in Canada and the U.S., including: six Canadian Senior Golf Association Championship titles; Canadian Senior Amateur Champion; Ontario Senior Amateur Champion; four London Hunt men’s club championship titles; and 17 London Hunt Senior Invitational Championship titles from 1967 to 1993.

Ervasti is already a member of the London Sports Hall of Fame, the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame, the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame and the Highpoint Country Club (North Carolina) Hall of Fame. He rightfully deserves to be enshrined into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.

If you wish to support Ervasti’s earlier induction into the golf hall, please contact the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame at 1-800-263-0009 ext. 411 or email
