London’s Maddie Szeryk entered her first pro event this week at the Cactus Tour’s Wildfire Golf Club tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona – and she walked away with a two-stroke victory.

Szeryk, 22, who resides in Allen, Texas shot a three-round total of 69-67-69–205 (-11) at the Faldo/Palmer/Faldo course rotation Jan. 7-9. The recent Texas A&M Aggies graduate bettered Karah Sanford of California and hometown golfer Sarah Schmelzel who both finished 9-under-par 207.

The only other Canadian in the field, Krista Fenniak of Fort McMurray, Alberta, finished even par and tied for 14th spot.

Szeryk was recently named Canada’s top female amateur golfer of 2018 by Golf Canada. She finished atop the women’s National Order of Merit, and recorded back-to-back collegiate victories for the Aggies.

Szeryk recently turned pro and will compete on the Symetra Tour this season.
