The OCAA golf championship tournament got underway today at Komoka’s FireRock Golf Club, and to no one’s surprise, Fanshawe Falcons rookie sensation Alyssa Stoddart sits atop the leaderboard.

Stoddart, of Orangeville, Ont., posted a 9-over-par 82, good enough for a 10-stroke lead over second-place Olivia Banton of Humber Hawks.

Stoddart’s teammate, Mery Tarigan, shot 92 (+19) and sits in a four-way tie for second.

The two-member Falcons (174) lead the women’s team championship by 10 strokes over three-member Humber (184).

They’re the only two teams competing, but there are seven women competing today through Wednesday, now that Amye Pellow of Mohawk has withdrawn.

In the men’s division, the Falcons are also on top with a team score of plus-9 293, four strokes better than Humber.

Braydon White leads the way for Fanshawe with a first-round 70 (1-under). He’s the only golfer under par today. Teammate Thomas Code is one stroke back at even par.

There are 12 men’s team competing at FireRock. Round 2 begins tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. The final round is expected to be played under sunny skies, with more rain forecasted for Tuesday.
