After the first round of the OFSAA boys’ golf championship at Oshawa’s Royal Ashburn Golf Club, the Oakridge Oaks – WOSSAA champs – are tied for 12th.

The host team from Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby lead with a team score of 218 (+2). The Oaks shot a collective 247 (+31).

Calvin Norris led the Oaks today with a plus-9 81 and sits T57. Norris captured this year’s Les Thomas Memorial Tournament on the Junior Tyson Tour.

The Oaks are making history this week with two girls on their squad – an OFSAA first.

Isabella Portokalis, who won her second-straight TVRA Central championship, sits T68 with a score of 82 (+10), while Jillian Friyia is T77 with an 84 (+12).

The fourth Oakridge golfer, Kevin Frehner, shot a plus-13 85 and sits T84.

Oakridge coach Mike Granger called the 6,300-yard layout “a great course that played a lot differently today than during yesterday’s practice round. The greens were firmer and faster, and we saw a lot of three-putts.”

Round 2 begins Thursday at 9 a.m. – click here for pairings.
