Equipment Review: The Perfect Club 347, The Ladies Perfect Driver
by Jeffrey Reed
By now, you’re familiar with the baritone pipes of Peter Kessler, lauding the benefits of The Perfect Club on The Golf Channel. And by now, you should have familiarized yourself with a hybrid club of some sort – and there are many in today’s marketplace.
Since The Perfect Club was introduced in 2002, more than 200,000 golfers have replaced their 3- and 4-irons, and their 7-woods, in favour of this hybrid – and for good reasons. Like Kessler outlines on the infomercials, it’s versatile, can be used from a variety of lies – bunkers, tees, fairways – and combines the perfect loft with the ideal shaft length: 21E of loft, with a 39-in. steel shaft or 39.25-in. graphite shaft.
In fact, this is where I think The Perfect Club really gets things right: the length of the shaft is perfect for the swing required of a rescue club. Whether you sweep or hit down on the ball, a long-iron or 7-wood replacement mustn’t carry a lengthy shaft. In this regard, The Perfect Club really is perfect.
Recently, three new models have been added to The Perfect Club collection: The Perfect Club 347; The Ladies Perfect Driver; and The Perfect Spoon 134.
I tested The Perfect Club 347, built to the same standard as the original club, but with improved looks, feel and ball flight. The centre of gravity has been moved forward and lower to provide a higher launch angle, plus longer flight. I won’t argue: this baby is a gem. Even your grandmother can go pin hunting with this hybrid. It boasts a 39.25-in. shaft from Grafalloy, a personal favourite. The offset head makes this club the perfect addition to the mid- to high-handicap golfer’s arsenal.
While grandma may love The Perfect Club 347, she’s really going to do cartwheels when she swings The Ladies Perfect Driver. London Ontario Golf assistant editor, Elizabeth Reed, is no grandma but she is a high-handicapper who really benefitted from hitting The Ladies Perfect Driver.
Here’s another club with perfect specs. The shaft length is just 41 in. and the loft 14E – what a combo! It’s advertised as “the easiest driver to hit consistently high and straight of any driver ever made for the recreational lady golfer.” My trusty assistant agrees: she nailed shot after shot at the range, something she finds difficult with most other drivers. The forged 370cc head doesn’t seem small at all, thanks to proportional dimensions of the entire club. And the baby blue ladies flex shaft with stabilized tip and penetrating trajectory, plus soft Winn Lady grip are both solid and attractive performers.
In a show of support for women’s health, The Perfect Club Company is donating a portion of sales of this club to breast cancer research. The familiar pink ribbon logo is marked on the grip and the club cover.
The third new addition to The Perfect Club collection, The Perfect Spoon 134, is designed to replace 3- and 4-woods, plus the all-but-extinct 1-iron. With 15E loft plus 40.25-in. graphite shaft, this club is designed to dial long distance with ease. You’ll hit the ball high and long, landing it as soft as butterfly feet.
The three new offerings from The Perfect Club Company retail from $80 US to $199 US. Visit www.theperfectclub.com, listen to Kessler’s online greeting, and read more about hybrid “perfection.”
