Apparel Review: FootJoy DryJoys Shoes
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com

If you don’t realize that golf shoes are an integral part of your game, shame on you. A good golf shoe will provide you with a long period of support – good for the body, and the swing – providing that you look after your shoes.

FootJoy, the “#1 Shoe in Golf and the #1 Shoe on every tour Worldwide,” has recently released its new DryJoys shoe. Since I’ve worn just about every golf shoe known to mankind, searching for shoes that are especially supportive due to my club feet, I do consider myself a bit of an expert on golf shoes. Thumbs up for FootJoy’s new DryJoys – and here’s why.

The latest DryJoys offering is an eight-part machine designed to provide comfort and support, whether you’re walking the hilliest terrain from tee to green, or when you’re hitting shots from a variety of lies. They look cool, too, thanks to contemporary designs – and there are a myriad of styles from which to choose. Think a golf shoe isn’t a high-tech piece of equipment? Think again.

Billed as “the most comfortable, high performance DryJoys ever,” the new DryJoys are unique for a number of reasons, most notably seven strategically placed TPU Stability Pods surrounding each cleat. These pods provide stability, durability and great ground contact. Then, surrounding the Stability Pods in two places – around the heal, and around five front Pods – is FootJoy’s Optiflex technology. The two zones provide maximum flexibility and ground contact, regardless of the lie. Resting in the centre of the shoe bottom is a TPU Stability Bridge, an aluminized fibreglass bridge which offers mid-foot support and motion control throughout the golf swing. And the Pulsar Cleats by Softspikes provide green-friendly traction.

The DryJoys ECL super soft Leather System, developed by Pittards of England, is a proprietary leather system offering ultimate waterproof, breathable, membrane-free qualities. On a windy, rainy day, I wore a pair of the white DryJoys with contemporary uranium and black accent saddle design, and found these shoes to provide outstanding waterproof character. In fact, FootJoy designed these “sweet shoes” (sorry, Sign Boy, had to steal your line) with a TPU saddle which is integrated into the lace system for even more mid-foot support. If you have a narrow foot like me, then you’ll appreciate this feature.

The EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) Midsole provides fantastic shock absorption and a comfortable walk throughout the round. A Comfort Plus Fit-Bed inside the shoe is as comfortable as Tiger Woods with a three-shot lead at the turn. It offers extra thick PU (Poly Urethane) material for outstanding comfort.

With a MSRP of $160 US, these shoes are a sweet deal. For more information on the new FootJoy DryJoys shoe offerings, visit www.footjoy.com/dryjoys. Your feet will thank you for stopping by.
