This was the 59th edition of the Hulbert Memorial Championship which began in 1953 after the name sake Arthur Hulbert. Arthur Hulbert was the Head Professional at Thornhill Golf & Country Club from 1924 until 1945 when he died very suddenly and left his family in dire straits. The members of Thornhill and his fellow professionals banded together and held a Pro-Am to raise some money to help out his immediate family, thus, the birth of the Hulbert Memorial Fund which today is the PGA of Ontario Benevolent Fund. The purpose of the Benevolent Fund is to assist the families of PGA of Canada Professionals’ in Ontario who struggle through illness, death or other catastrophic occurrences where assistance is required. Thornhill Country Club and the PGA of Ontario were very excited to bring this prestigious event back to its beginnings at Thornhill Country Club.
The Hulbert Memorial Championship is just one of the ways the benevolent fund receives support. Through continued support from many of the provinces golf courses the Hulbert Fund has successfully been helping Canadian PGA Professionals’ and their families since 1946.
