Canadian PGA changes name to PGA of Canada

ACTON, ON (JULY 28, 2011) - The Canadian PGA announced today that members of the association and the National Board of Directors approved a name change to The PGA of Canada during a special meeting held in Calgary, Alberta on June 13th, 2011. The association logo will remain unchanged.

The PGA of Canada was established in 1911 and is the second oldest and third largest professional golf association in the world. The PGA of Canada is a non-profit Association comprised of 3,700 golf professionals across the country. The Association’s mandate is to develop, promote and support members as experts in the game and business of golf and, in so doing, serves both its Members’ needs and those of the golfing public through the association’s varied programs and events. The association consists of the National Office located in Acton, Ontario and nine Zone Offices located across the country.

“After celebrating our centennial, it’s important for our association to not only recognize our history but to build on our future”, said PGA of Canada President Glenn Cundari. “We are excited about our future as we implement new and exciting initiatives, giving our members the tools to grow the game.

Changing our name to PGA of Canada is one of those initiatives, allowing us to harmonize with the international golf community and making our members part of the larger PGA family”, added Cundari.

“The PGA brand is one of the most recognizable brands in the world”, said PGA of Canada, Chief Executive Officer Gary Bernard. “This name change will allow us to leverage the PGA brand more effectively and better align our association and our members within the PGA World Alliance, ultimately giving us better visibility within the golf industry”.

The PGA of Canada is a member of the PGA World Alliance, an organization that includes the ten most developed PGA’s and 56,000 PGA members worldwide.
