Subject: Choi, Sutton Named Honorable Mention All-Americans
NORMAN, Okla. - Rising junior Mitchell Sutton and rising sophomore Albin Choi of the NC State men's golf team were named Thursday to the Division I PING Honorable Mention All-America team.
The two Canadians enjoyed an incredible season for the Wolfpack in 2010-11 as both won two tournaments apiece and posted scoring averages that rank among the top-10 all-time at NC State.
Choi, from Toronto, was unanimously named ACC Freshman of the Year after leading the conference with a 71.5 scoring average, the fourth lowest at NC State. He notched a pair of victories in the fall, and had seven top-10's and 10 top-20 finishes.
He was also named an honorable mention All-American by Golfweek. In addition, Choi was listed on the five-man All-Freshman team by Golfweek and the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation.
Sutton, from London, Ontario, adds to his sophomore-season accolades with his first all-america award. He was also selected to the Division I PING All-Region Team after earning a share of medalist honors at the NCAA Florida Regional with a score of 10-under 206.
Meanwhile, he was named to the All-ACC team with a 71.9 scoring average. That figure is the seventh-lowest in school history and was the seventh lowest in the ACC this past season.
Choi and Sutton are members of Canada's National Amateur Team and are expected to compete in a handful of events this summer before returning to Raleigh in August.
Just last week, the duo competed at the Monroe Invitational in Rochester, N.Y., and Choi won the tournament on the second playoff hole, while Sutton tied for fifth. |
