The 2011 Trimark Sportswear Ontario PGA Spring Championship Presented By SkyCaddie will be held on May 16th & 17th at Galt Country Club.
"The members are really looking forward to hosting this event at the club," said Rob Moore, Head Professional at Galt Country Club. "If the weather is fine I believe we will have a good turnout to watch the pros play. The golf course is in exceptionally good condition and should prove a fair but challenging test to the field of players," continued Moore.
Danny King claimed the victory at the 2010 Spring Championship and is looking for a consecutive win in 2011. "Each season I like to come out and compete at the highest possible level and to my full potential," said Danny King. "There are a lot of great players that participate in the Spring Championship and other tournaments throughout the season, so I strive to keep my game sharp by preparing during the winter months. I really enjoy playing on Stanley Thompson designed golf courses, and Galt Country Club is no exception. It felt great to take home the win in 2010 for this event and hope for a repeat in 2011," continued King.
The 99 players are not the only ones excited to be part of such a prestigious Ontario PGA tournament, our valued sponsors are as well.
The Title sponsor of the Spring Championship, Trimark Sportswear, are proud to be involved with this event. "We are thrilled to support the Spring Championship where the OPGA professional has the opportunity to demonstrate their talents," said Mark Alexander, Manager of Golf & Resort Detail at Trimark Sportswear. "It's also an ideal forum for us to begin showcasing what we do best. At Trimark we specialize in quality, price point logo'd apparel using unique decoration applications. Our standards and service run parallel to that of the Club Professional and that's why this new partnership was an easy decision," continued Alexander.
The Presenting sponsor of the 2011 Spring Championship is SkyCaddie. "Jancor Agencies and SkyCaddie are thrilled to be part of the OPGA Spring Championship," said Steve Davies, President of Jancor Agencies-SkyCaddie. "Our most important business partners are the Club Professionals and the opportunity to be part of this event is very special to us," added Davies.

(Cambridge, Ont., May 17, 2011) - Bill Walsh (The Golf Lab) shot 6-under-par to win the 2011 Ontario PGA Spring Championship at Galt Country Club. Walsh's two day total was enough to beat a number of competitive players. That group included Michael Resciniti (Copper Creek) and Brian McCann (Academy at BraeBen) who finished 5-under-par, David Miller (Hamilton) with 4-under-par, and Reg Millage (Clublink Academy at Glen Abbey) at 1-under-par.
"Winning the Spring championship has always been a goal of mine and it feels great to have held off a good friend of mine (Brian McCann) to capture the title," said Bill Walsh. "I really enjoyed all my playing partners over the last two days, the camaraderie amongst all the players is what these events are all about. Thanks again to Trimark, SkyCaddie and everyone at Galt for a great event," added Walsh.
With this win Walsh joins a list of accomplished past champions including three time winner Gar Hamilton, Ashley Chinner, Ken Tarling, Bob Panasik, Jerry Anderson and recently in 2010 Danny King. The Ontario PGA Spring Championship has been played since 1977 and is typically played in the Kitchener/Waterloo/London corridor. |
