Quebec Junior Awarded CJGA Helena Harbridge Sportsmanship Award

MARKHAM, ON (November 12, 2010) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is pleased to recognize the 2010 winner of the Helena Harbridge Sportsmanship Award.

Shannon Lee Greenshields, 17, of Pincourt, Quebec has earned the honourable distinction for an award that recognizes sportsmanship, dedication, and commitment in the game of golf. The award is named after Helena Harbridge, an outstanding junior golfer and CJGA alum who passed away in 2006 during her freshman year at West Georgia University.

“I am incredibly honoured and very excited about winning this award” said an elated Greenshields. “There are many deserving golfers that I have played with and who are good examples of the traits that Helena exhibited. I feel very privileged to have been chosen” she added.

Shannon, a member at Summerlea Golf and Country Club just west of Montreal, enjoyed some success this year as she finished 8th on the Golf Quebec Order of Merit. “Golf has helped me become who I am today” said Greenshields. “I owe a lot to my parents for introducing the game to me, and to my family for supporting me in every event I play in. I've made some new friends, and I hope to keep playing with them as we grow as better golfers.”

Greenshields still has two more years left as a junior and has the ambition to continue her golf career at a post-secondary institution. “I plan to continue my golf at a very competitive level and hope there may be a golf scholarship available to me as I finish CEGEP and go on to university” she said. “I intend to increase my schedule next season and diversify my play provincially and nationally with the hopes of also qualifying to include some international events.”

Winners of the Helena Harbridge Sportsmanship Award will receive a beautiful custom trophy courtesy of Lorry Moffatt of Classic Awards as well as a free life time membership to the CJGA.
