Did you come into this tournament expecting to win?
It is a surprise. In the back of my mind, I always kind of knew that I could win this tournament, but I had to play really well. This is obviously my best finish. For the past two years I didn't finish in the Top 10. I was like 12th, 14th. But this is definitely a surprise for me.
When did you know you were pulling away?
On 10, 11, 12, then my tee shot on 13, after that I pretty much thought that everything was under control, just if I kept playing they way I was, I'd win.
How would you rate your round?
This would be one of the best. To pull it off in the final round of the Canadian (Amateur), it feels great.
You missed the course record by one stroke, but you did set a new Canadian Amateur record at 271 (-17).
I wish I could have finished 18 in a better way. But my goal was to win. And I did that and I was very pleased.
Did you know what the course record was?
My caddie (Jerry Snowdon), he's a member here, and he was telling me. But I tried not to think about it, really. I just tried to keep playing the way I was.
You've earned a spot in the 2011 Canadian Open field.
I'm really happy to know that. But when I was playing, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about it. But I did think about it. It's great. I'm kind of speechless right now, I guess. |
