ROSENEATH, P.E.I. - Humber College picked up where it left off at the 2011 PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships on Wednesday, as the defending men's team champions are the first round leaders thanks to a strong showing by 2010 CCAA medalists Adrian Cord and Mark Hoffman.
Cord jumped out to a four-under 68 to lead all golfers after Day 1. Hoffman is on Cord's heals after posting a two-under 70 as both Humber athletes were the only competitors to break par.
The 2011 PING CCAA Golf National Championships are taking place at the Brudenell River Golf Course in Roseneath, P.E.I. and are hosted by Holland College.
Hoffman is the two-time defending Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men's champion, and the reigning national silver medalist. Cord has won consecutive OCAA silver medals, and a CCAA bronze last year.
Five OCAA golfers rank in the Top 10, including Fanshawe's Taylor Booth and Durham's David Lang who are tied for fourth place with scores of one-over 73. Humber's Conor Hache sits in a tie for ninth place shooting a three-over 75.
Defending OCAA bronze co-medalists Alex Dumais of Humber and Brennan Smith of St. Lawrence-Kingston are tied for 24th overall shooting six-over 78.
With a first round score of 291, Humber leads the men's team competition by 12 strokes over host Holland College of P.E.I. Durham sits in fourth place with a score of 304.
In the women's competition, 2011 OCAA champion Tiffany Albath of Durham is in third place, nine strokes behind clubhouse leader Josee Doyon of Champlain St Lawrence in Quebec after she shot even par. Albath's 81 is three strokes better than teammate Kayleigh Kraemer and Georgian's Nicole Belcourt, who are tied for fifth shooting 84. Albath and Kraemer are defending national silver and bronze medalists, respectively.
Durham leads the women's team competition with Albath and Kraemer's combined score of 165. Georgian is in fourth place, 11 strokes off the pace. Two-time defending bronze medalist Jasmine Paton had a tough round shooting 92. Paton is currently tied for 15th individually, along with St. Clair's Ashley Unrau.
Round 2 of the 54-hole tournament will take place Thursday, followed by Friday's final round.

ROSENEATH, P.E.I. - Inclement weather has forced the cancellation of Round 2 at the 2011 PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships on Thursday, putting Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) student-athletes in great position to bring home some hardware.
The originally scheduled three round, 54-hole tournament will be shortened to two rounds and 36 holes, with the final 18 holes being played on Friday. The 2011 PING CCAA Golf National Championships are taking place at the Brudenell River Golf Course in Roseneath, P.E.I. and are hosted by Holland College.

ROSENEATH, P.E.I. - Humber and Durham Colleges successfully defended its men's and women's team titles, respectively, at the 2011 PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships on Friday.
A Humber golfer also claimed the men's individual championship, as Adrian Cord held off teammate Mark Hoffman to earn double-gold.
The 2011 PING CCAA Golf National Championships were hosted by Holland College at the Brudenell River Golf Course in Roseneath, P.E.I.
Cord entered the final round leading by two strokes over Hoffman after rain on Thursday shortened the tournament from 54 to 36 holes. Both golfers posted even-par 72s on Friday, as Cord cruised to the men's individual title with a two-day total score of 140. Cord finished the tournament two-under par.
Cord and Hoffman posted sub-par opening rounds of 68 and 70 on Wednesday. Kevin Walz of Camosun College in Victoria shot the tournament's best round on Friday, shooting five-under 67 to tie Hoffman for individual silver with identical scores of 142.
Hoffman is the two-time defending OCAA champion, while Cord is a two-time silver medalist. Hoffman and Cord earned individual silver and bronze medals, respectively, at last year's nationals.
Six OCAA golfers in total finished in the Top 10. David Lang of Durham shot 73 and 76 for a two-day total of 149 to finish in a tie for fifth place. Taylor Booth of Fanshawe shot rounds of 73 and 77 totaling 150 to place seventh. Ben Bell of Humber finished one shot and position behind Booth with rounds of 78 and 73 totaling 152. Ethan O'Meara of Fanshawe shot 77 and 76 for a two-day total of 153 to finish in a tie for 10th.
In team competition, Humber easily cruised to another national men's team title shooting a combined score of 587, twenty-two strokes better than host Holland College of P.E.I. Durham, Georgian and Fanshawe placed sixth, seventh and eighth with scores of 626, 627 and 630, respectively.
OCAA schools finished 1-2 in the women's team competition. Durham's twosome of Tiffany Albath and Kayleigh Kraemer combined for a total score of 327, eight strokes better than Georgian's team of Nicole Belcourt and Jasmine Paton. For Durham, it marks a second straight CCAA women's championship.
Albath's consecutive rounds of nine-over 81 gave her a two-day total of 162, good for third place in the women's individual competition. The 2011 OCAA women's champion earned a national bronze medal to go with her silver she won last year. Josee Doyon of Champlain St. Lawrence in Quebec won the CCAA women's individual title with a remarkable two-day total of 148, fourteen shots better than Albath.
Kramer finished out of individual medal contention in fourth place with rounds of 84 and 83 totaling 165, three shots behind her Durham teammate. Kramer won national bronze last year, and is a three-time OCAA medalist. Belcourt placed fifth, two strokes behind Kramer with rounds of 84 and 83 totaling 167. Paton improved on her Round 1 score of 92, shooting 84 in the final round for a two-day total of 176, good for 10th place. Paton is a two-time OCAA bronze medalist.
St. Clair placed eighth in the women's team competition with a total score of 366. St. Clair was represented by three golfers in the competition, including Jordan Schatz who finished tied for 15th overall with rounds of 97 and 86 for a two-day total of 183. Teammate Ashley Unrau tied for 19th individual with rounds of 92 and 93 totaling 185. Heather MacKenzie rounded out the St. Clair contingent with scores of 96 and 92 totaling 188, good for 22nd.
