London Ontario Golf Newsletter
March 2010

March 9, 2010 (London, ONT) – Welcome to a 6th season of London Ontario Golf, www.LondonOntarioGolf.com, London & Southwestern Ontario’s Online Golf Resource!

With the weather warming in southwestern Ontario, more than 100 area golf courses are preparing from tee to green to welcome members and daily green fee golfers. The golf-mad population of London, Ontario is unique: most of us are avid golfers, while about one-third are casual participants. In most other communities, those numbers are reverse. This is just one reason why London, Ontario is crazy about golf.

London Ontario Golf editor Jeffrey Reed, a member of the Golf Journalists Association of Canada and one of Canada’s leading golf writers and broadcasters, established www.LondonOntarioGolf.com for two reasons: to offer local golfers the most comprehensive online resource for golf course and practice facility listings, plus news and information from the local links; and to offer golfers everywhere the most comprehensive Internet-based resource for everything golf – from amateur and professional tours, to in-depth reviews of golf equipment, apparel and accessories.

“One of the most flattering developments has been the local media’s increased awareness of this great game of golf,” says Reed of the website’s local impact. “I am also flattered by the amount of e-mail we receive from golfers across Canada, the U.S. and across the globe. In particular, our In The News board ranks second to none for up-to-the-minute golf news and information – it’s updated numerous times daily.”

Here’s what’s new – and what’s coming soon – at London Ontario Golf:

Our Women’s Section Has Grown

• We have now assembled our strongest team of women’s golf columnists in our six years of existence. Leading our team is LPGA Tour competitor and Hamilton, Ontario’s own Alena Sharp. Follow Alena as she competes for her first win on the LPGA Tour.
• Dr. Natascha Wesch offers an inside look at the mental side of golf with her new column, Golf: It’s A Head Game.
• We’re pleased to welcome guest columnists from the Corporate Communications & Public Relations graduate program at London’s Fanshawe College of Applied Arts & Technology. This month’s column comes from Jessica Kilcoyne, a talented young writer with a promising career ahead of her. Jessica writes about how golf helps combat cardiovascular disease.
• Also, London Ontario Golf webmaster October 17 Media/Syntric Design provides a monthly column offering advice on “all things Internet.” Who says education can’t be fun?

“Many thanks to Wilson Golf for their continued sponsorship,” says Reed. “When I sought a title sponsor, it was important to me that I believed in the product, too. Playing a wide range of Wilson Staff equipment, I recorded a local course record and a lifetime-best round of 60. I can’t wait to put the new Ci9 irons into play this season.”

In addition, London Ontario Golf is proud to announce continued official sponsorship from the following companies:

We are pleased to announce that our growing golf instruction operation will expand in 2010. A special thank you to Green Par Practice Range, 4680 Wellington Road South in London. For information on lessons, call 519-643-6334. Booking lessons now!
Here’s what one student had to say about us:

"With his expert knowledge and an absolute love for the game, I would recommend Jeff to any level golfer looking to improve. He has a unique ability to teach ideas so that they are clear and logical, allowing you to take and repeat what you've learned outside the lesson. His passion for the game is contagious while his genuine nature and sense of humour make lessons so enjoyable. I've just recently found my love and talent for golf and owe a huge thanks to Jeff for helping uncover and encourage these things in me. I am working towards possibly competing in the future." - Alisha Beach, London, ONT

The Fox Golf Club

In 2010, Jeffrey will once again be a guest member at The Fox Golf Club, RR#3 Granton, just north of London off Elginfield Road. The Fox offers 18 holes of links-style golf. Club Manager and Head Superintendent, Patrick Brennan, is a former member of the grounds crew at the Old Course at St. Andrew’s – the home of golf. He’s hard at work revamping the course website, but be sure to visit soon: www.foxgolf.ca . In the meantime, read about The Fox here
